        A Call For Legislative Action

 Quote by Victor Hugo:
There is one thing stronger than all the armies in the world; and that is an idea whose time has come.

Challenging our State Elected Officials To Act:

To Assemblyman Kevin Jefferies and State Senator
Joel Anderson:

Propose legislation and or amendments that would increase the portion of the 8.75% sales tax collected by the State Board of Equalization from the current 1% to 2% that the City of Murrieta would receive.

The State gets 7%!

Example: For the city's fiscal year 2008-2009 operating budget, sales tax revenue (generated from our zoning within the General Plan) was estimated at $13,030,000. Decreasing the State's share by 1%; Murrieta would double its collections from this non income tax source.

Given the potential for municipalities and statistics that forecast a steady overall decline in revenues from personal income taxes well into the next decade; the legislature has a duty to protect the municipalities it represents. This action could get bi-partisan support.

Based upon these facts, it is my belief that greater local control over the apportioned revenue from local zoning we voted on as a community (Murrieta's Survey Based General Plan Document) is part of a prudent solution that transfers a greater share of state power to the residents, council, and the city staff practicing good government; deciding together what serves our community's short and long term planning and business development efforts best, as opposed to special interest groups with personal agendas spinning half-truths in Sacramento.
